Showbiz 411 reports that the Saturday Night Live star is the leading contender to fill the permanent co-hosting seat alongside Kelly Ripa each morning, as he'll kick off a week of guest-hosting Monday - in the middle of July Sweeps - that may determine the funny man's fate.
If Meyes does land the gig, he would continue to anchor Weekend Update, but would resign as lead writer on SNL.
The other possible candidates for this coveted position are former New York Giants linebacker Michael Strahan and singer Josh Groban.
